What is BIAB?
BIAB stands for Builder In A Bottle, a thicker, self-levelling gel that adds strength and structure to your natural nails. Think of it as a protective layer that lets your own nails grow longer without splitting, peeling or snapping. Unlike traditional acrylic extensions, BIAB works with your natural nail rather than sitting on top as a false tip.
BIAB vs gel polish vs acrylics
- Gel polish is a thin colour coat cured under a lamp. Beautiful finish, lasts two to three weeks, but adds little strength.
- BIAB is a builder gel: stronger and thicker than gel polish, designed to reinforce the natural nail. Ideal if your nails are weak, bitten or break easily.

How long does BIAB last?
On fingers, three to four weeks between infills is typical. On toes, often longer because toenails grow more slowly. The better the prep and the aftercare, the longer it lasts, which is exactly why an unrushed one-to-one appointment beats a ten-minute conveyor-belt job.
Does BIAB damage your nails?
Applied and removed properly, no. Damage comes from picking or peeling it off, or from rushed removal with aggressive filing. Always have BIAB soaked or filled professionally. If anything lifts between appointments, leave it alone and message for a fix rather than picking.
Aftercare tips
- Use cuticle oil daily. It keeps the overlay flexible and stops lifting.
- Wear gloves for cleaning and washing up.
